Professional Development

Armour College students get jobs because employers know that our graduates arrive on the job ready to hit the ground running. Our students gain real-world skills throughout their time at Illinois Tech in their degree program, internships, research, and more.

As an Armour student, you’ll network and collaborate with professional engineers, gaining insight into the profession and experience that will help you stand out in job interviews. Through Armour Academy, you’ll be paired with a practicing engineer who will mentor you throughout your time at Illinois Tech.

Illinois Tech provides opportunities for leadership training, and many Armour students take on leadership roles in our student organizations, including Illinois Tech chapters of professional organizations, which organize events such as job fairs, mock interviews, and alumni networking throughout the year.

At Armour, students begin preparing for career success from day one. Every student receives mentorship to develop an individualized plan, and we help our students transition into the engineering profession by offering guidance for passing professional licensing exams.

We aim to be lifelong partners in learning for our students. We continue to develop new professional master’s and certificate programs to provide opportunities that can help engineers keep up with the rapidly evolving technological landscape throughout their careers. Contact graduate admissions to learn more about professional development opportunities for engineers.

Our graduates go on to work in both academia and industry, with many graduates finding employment at exciting companies such as Amazon; Abbott Laboratories; Exxon-Mobil; Intel; NASA; SpaceX; and Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM).

“When people talk to me, they’re talking to a professional…Internships help you ask the right questions and make you more career-oriented.”
