This summer, experience first-hand your Illinois Tech future!

The Exelon Summer Institute (ESI) is a four-week summer camp for supporting students transition to college life. This invitation-only program creates a community of learners in math, physics, chemistry, writing, and computer science. Student teaching teams support participants while faculty conduct specialized lectures and participate in local field trips with participants. It is a hands-on program that includes a rocket project, robot wars, bridge and catapult challenges. Mini-projects are also dispersed throughout the day, giving our students an opportunity to flex their intellect with creativity!

This program is for admitted Illinois Tech students in the fall by invitation only.

The transition to university life and the academic rigors of the first year of college can be challenging. ESI is an intensive but fun, four-week program designed to give new students an opportunity to meet current students, make friends, and experience college life at Illinois Tech. The program takes place from July 6 - July 31, 2026, and it is open to admitted students entering full-time in the fall by invitation only.

Students invited to participate in the Exelon Summer Institute will receive an email containing an online application link to confirm their participation and understanding.

ESI was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Each day brought new memories and funny stories. As a commuter during the school year, ESI gave me the chance to experience dorm life and make countless new friends. It really prepared me for the student life at Illinois Tech and helped me build some great connections before the start of the semester. It's a perfect way to learn new skills and have a fun, enriching summer!

Frequently Asked Questions

ESI is an invitation-only program to admitted students who have been recommended by admissions counselors. Students invited to join will receive an email to commit to the program in late May.

The ESI helps address common issues students face in transitioning from high school to college. ESI also facilitates student involvement in the Illinois Tech community by engaging with other future students, faculty, and staff in a smaller environment.

Students also participate in additional curriculum to help them brush up on skills and understand the academic expectations of Illinois Tech students. Additionally, during the program new students learn about the city and all the resources available on campus. 

Students are committing to the entire four-week program and living on campus during ESI. Students are also expected to participate in faculty led courses and scheduled activities. 

Yes, part of the requirement includes living on campus. Students participate in classes during the day and scheduled activities and programming during the evenings.

Living on campus also gives students a more authentic college experience.

We got you covered! Students selected are able to participate and live on campus at no additional cost, including all meals. 

No. Due to the busy schedule of the ESI program, guests are not permitted in the residence halls during the four-week period.
