Illinois Tech considers transfer students of high academic caliber with strong performance in courses relevant to your program of study for admission. In the application we evaluate your academic standing, the rigor of your coursework, and the sequencing of semesters. We also would like to hear why you think an education at Illinois Tech would help you pursue your academic and career goals and why, or how, you decided upon your major. We also are interested in learning how you may have overcome any challenges or struggles that might be reflected in your academic history. Be specific. We are interested in you and want to hear your story.
If you are a domestic United States applicant interested in transferring to Illinois Tech, follow the instructions below to complete your application.
Step 1: Application for Admission
Transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at the college they most recently attended to be considered for admission to Illinois Tech. A minimum grade-point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is considered for admission.
Step 2: Submit Official College Transcripts
We require transcripts from all colleges attended, regardless of academic or financial standing, length of attendance, or length of time since attendance.
Please have your school submit official transcripts through its electronic transcript service to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If an electronic service is not available, then please mail your sealed official transcripts to:

Step 3: Submit Other Supplemental Materials (If Applicable)
Official Test Scores and Secondary School Transcript
Students who have completed fewer than 30 semester hours of transferable college work after high school/secondary school graduation will also be required to submit test scores and high school/secondary school transcript(s). If you apply before completing your first semester of college, we ask you to include this information in your application or contact us directly at email@example.com so that we may process your application appropriately.
If you have completed more than 30 semester hours of transferable college work after high school/secondary school, you are not required to submit your official test scores or high school/secondary school transcript(s).
Letter of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation are not required for transfer students; however, they can enhance your application, especially if submitted by professors or instructors in courses relevant to your intended major. If you’d like to submit a letter of recommendation, please have the individual email the letter of recommendation directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Decisions are made within two weeks of receiving the completed application materials. Notification for fall admission begins in early December.

If you are an international student interested in transferring to Illinois Tech, view the application requirements in the International Undergraduate Students section of this website.
If you have completed significant coursework in architecture or other visual courses, you must participate in a portfolio review session to determine your appropriate studio placement at Illinois Tech. The Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UGAA) will review transcripts from your previous school(s) to identify which art and architecture courses will require a portfolio review. After admission, you will receive an official evaluation of transfer credit report from UGAA showing courses that are eligible for transfer credit and which courses will require a portfolio review.
After you receive the official evaluation of transfer credit report from UGAA, you may mail your portfolio for a remote review or contact the College of Architecture to schedule an in-person portfolio review.
Your portfolios must include work from all relevant art and architecture courses, including recently completed courses. Portfolio reviews will not be scheduled until all official transcripts have been submitted to Illinois Tech and we receive the official evaluation of transfer credit report from UGAA. The college reserves the right to cancel or postpone portfolio review appointments if the university has not received all required, up-to-date transcripts.
